The latest competition's results

A warm welcome to the Seniors Section of Silverstone Golf Club, where we look to provide a really special golfing experience to all our members aged 55 and over.
We offer a busy golfing calendar based around regular Wednesday Competitions and friendly roll-ups on Mondays and Fridays. All are randomly drawn so you are always meeting new people.
On the more competitive front we enjoy a full fixture list of home and away matches with 13 local clubs which are open to all seniors with selection based on willingness to play and not on handicap or ability.
We also we run 10 trophy competitions through the year, away days, the Senior Open and regular mixed team events with the Ladies Section along with the summer and winter singles and pairs competitions.​
So a busy year ahead with many and varied golfing opportunities all provided while maintaining the spirit of friendship and camaraderie that is the hallmark of the Senior Section.

Latest news:
The annual tour was held as usual just before the British GP weekend. This year it was at Dorset Golf and Country Club with 4 days of golf in excellent weather. We had 31 on the tour and the trophy (Alec Bennet Trophy) was won by Barrie Hancock. This was the first time we had been to at Dorset for many years. The course required careful management for a good score and was in fine condition with excellent greens. Our thanks to Mel Bugler for managing the little black book and raising about £700 in fines for misdemeanors for this year’s charity, Katharine House Hospice.
On return we had the Seniors’ Club Championship with a field of 69 players. This year’s scores were much improved on last year with 13 players achieving or beating the 2025 winning Nett score. Ian Donald put in a very respectable round of 71 to retain the Championship beating his score from last year by 3 shots. Andy Mason was the Nett victor, shooting 88 (64 Nett).
The July Seniors Medal was won on count back by Anthony Lamb on 80 (Nett 68). A further 5 players were also on Nett 68!! Julian Baker shot the lowest Gross with 78.
The Gerry Sadler Trophy (a Greensomes competition) was won by Paul Tew and Trevor Wright hitting a creditable 46 points and two ahead of the nearest challengers. Over a third of the field of 33 teams scored 40 or above.
On the match front, we played away to Leighton Buzzard and lost, at home to Staverton Park and won and, came 2nd out of 22 teams in Buckingham’s Seniors’ Golf Invitation day.
In summary, we have had a very good month with above average scores throughout perhaps reflecting the hard surface and excellent greens.
Finally, can I remind everyone about our upcoming Charity Golf Day on 11th September. Teams of 4 are selling quickly and so please enter your team at the Proshop soon to avoid disappointment.
